To solve the Morel Mycology mystery and challenge: Indoor Cultivation, and thereby change the business model for morel production and marketing. Increase availability and the improve pricing.
The most sought-after gourmet mushroom is the morel, but morel cultivation is extremely difficult and most of the supply is procured via seasonal foraging methods that damage ecosystems and is quite labor-intensive. Researchers and cultivators have made some moderate advances with seasonal outdoor methods, but successful indoor methods have remained largely elusive.
We are at the intersection of passion and perseverance lies Project Morchella—our pioneering effort to unlock the secrets of Morchella americana, one of the most elusive and sought-after mushrooms on Earth.
Led by mycologists John James Staniszewski and Charlie Bry, this project represents hundreds of hours of hands-on experimentation, formulation, and fine-tuning in pursuit of something that has challenged mycologists for generations: a scalable method for indoor, year-round Morel cultivation.
Why does it matter? Because if successful, Project Morchella won’t just change the way we grow a mushroom—it could shift paradigms in agriculture, controlled environment farming, and ecological innovation. The implications for sustainability, food security, and commercial mushroom production are enormous.
This isn’t just about cultivation. It’s about possibility. It’s about demonstrating that with curiosity, grit, and a deep respect for the fungal kingdom, the “impossible” becomes achievable.
Stay tuned. The Morel revolution is just beginning.
